I've been a bit busy but mostly I've been having a ton of issues with my internet connect and especially with DeviantART not loading or not finishing loading pages and images. EDIT Jan.31th 2011: It's official! I've received 30 entries which means the prizes are now as follows:

THE CONTEST - CLASSIC FAIRY TALES So the idea of this contest will be your take, or interpretation on one of the following 10 Classic Fairy Tales that I've picked. You can choose to do panels of the main points of the tale, or a single scene from the tale, or a classic movie style collage poster. Whatever you feel like doing - it's completely up to you! Absolutely anyone can enter
The rules are simple (and listed below). Essentially, create some wicked rad art based on one of these Fairy Tales! Maybe you want to do a steampunk version of one of them? A sci-fi or fantasy inspired version? Or a time-period piece. Maybe you wish to redesign the story characters with your own brilliant flair? You could even just stick to doing a tradtional version of the fairy if that's what you feel like! Choose a Fairy Tale, and let you're creativity and imagination go wild!

I tried to avoid Fairy Tales that have been done by Disney as I feel the Disney versions have far too much influence on the stories, however I did include a couple because they are some of my favorite fairy tales and I felt there was a little more wiggle room for creativity with these particular ones. I do not wish to see the Disney version of Ariel and Eric though. As stated in the rules below this is
not a fanart contest.
THE RULES 1. The art must be your own work, and it must be new work created for this contest. Old art resubmitted as new art for the contest will get automatically disqualified. If you believe another artist is trying to pass off an older work as their entry to this contest please send me a private note about it and I will look into it.
2. The artwork must be posted on DeviantART. In the 'artist's comment' section you should state the Fairy Tale you have chosen, as well as mention that the work is for this contest, please title the contest
"Fairy Tale Contest" with a link to this journal.
3. You may use your original characters (and/or another DA artist's, with their permission) in the image if you like. You may not however use any characters from any video game, manga, movie, etc. I cannot stress enough that this is not a fanart contest.
4. Only traditional or digital drawings/paintings will be allowed for this contest.
5. You may submit up to three entries. They can be for three separate tales or all for the same one.
6. Be creative, have fun and make beautiful art!

THE JUDGING I will be judging the this contest. If there is anyone who would like to help me judge please send me a note :3 You should be able to express yourself in a mature manner and be able to judge an artwork based on it's strengths and weaknesses and give an honest critique of the work. Judges however will not be allowed to compete for prizes, though you could still make something based on the contest theme.
What I'll be looking for when judging:
Finished Pieces - Your final piece (the version you enter) should be shaded in colour and/or black and white. Cell shading is also good but it should look impressive. I'm really looking for more than just a lineart or a sketch. Backgrounds, or something to suggest background elements will add significantly to your work!
Technique - The quality should not be something that is rushed. Two months should be long enough, so I hope to see something you've put at least some time into. I hope to see that you felt inspired and confident in what you'd created.
Creativity - A unique take or interpretation on the theme. An interesting use of colour, composition and great style. Strong interaction between the character/s and well thought out feeling, mood and atmosphere to the artwork will also make the work more impressive!
Relatability - Does the artwork you've made fit the story you chose? While I look forward to seeing a lot of creativity, I still hope to be able to tell which story you've chosen without to much difficulty, or having to read which it is in the description.
Now the part you really want to hear!
THE PRIZES All entries will be featured in my journal and again in a news article once the winner's have been chosen. And I promise to leave a thoughtful comment on every piece entered.
